Charitable donations and Music are key to the Beehouse "Create to Donate" scheme which aims to support both charity and artists in a symbiotic relationship. The Scheme is a structure in which artists can work alongside charities and donate to their aims, whilst it also supports the work of singers, musicians and artists in a wide variety of genres. As musicians are some of the lowest paid workers in the UK, often playing for nothing or very little, the Beehouse feels morally bound to keep the needs of musicians in the spotlight, and rarely support a charity project outright. Our aim is to support both the charity and the artists in a symbiotic relationship.
We do not support every charitable donation request - sometimes we cannot afford to do so, and sometimes
there may be other priorities. Please do not take it amiss if your request is turned down, as both we and the artists we represent need also to make a living.
We are currently working or have recently worked on projects involving:
1. Action on Hearing Loss (Hookstick)
2. The Llanfyllin Dolydd Building Preservation Trust
How does the Beehouse donate to Charity?
We can make charity donations through our music in a variety of ways.
We sometimes support charity CDs by providing a run of CDs at no charge, if a recording has been made with us.
Charity downloads recorded at the Beehouse are usually made available on our downloads website, Noochoon, and put into our online catalogue at no extra charge.
With tracks which we develop with our bands, Hookstick and Eclips'd, we often agree that a proportion of a particular download or product will be given to charity. The level of donation is agreed with the charity in question in advance.
Performance Donations - Hookstick Funk Band
We have a band called Hookstick which regularly performs for Charity and releases tracks with an element going to the charity.. We are currently building a circuit for charity-related music performances around the UK at various venues. Performances are anticipated to be in suppport of Action Against Hearing Loss, and will double up as awareness raising events.
Recording Discounts as Donations
Recording donations are rare.
If we elect to support recording, this means that for a charity recording we may include a certain amount of recording time free of charge, extra services free of charge, or maybe some production work.
Other Ways to Support Charities.
- We have a UK-wide DJ agency, and on negotiation with our DJs we are also often able to provide discos with a 30% discount via our agency. If we are carrying out the disco ourselves, then this is even more possible.
- There is also a link-in with our community scheme here. If you qualify for our community rates and would like to record with us, we ask you to become a member of the Llanfyllin Dolydd Building Preservation Trust, for a small fee. This then qualifies you for the community rate - assuming you qualify in other ways.
How much goes to the charity?
The proportion to be donated to the charity on the sale of the product will usually be stated at the point of purchase. Please ask if in doubt. Please be aware that CDs and recordings are recorded at some cost both financially and in the time of the artists, and many contain original material. Therefore some costs are often returned to the artists proportionately to compensate them for their work.
